Qualified workers in this field are in demand. This hands-on course is taught by instructors with lineman experience and specialized education.

  • Electrical lineman training is a 16-week course.
  • Participants will complete 608 clock hours.
  • The course is taught on the Goodman campus of Holmes Community College.

All electrical linemen trainees must:

  • Pass a drug test.
  • Pass a DOT physical.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.

*Additional requirements may be given upon enrollment in the electrical linemen training.


After completion of the training each trainee will be able to:

  • Drive commercial vehicles requiring Class A license.
  • Explain all aspects of the safety manual.
  • Make connections of meter loops, transformers, and other equipment on de-energized poles.
  • Assist with the framing and installation of poles and apparatus on the ground.
  • Read and understand general information on the REA specification book.
  • Assist in the burying of cable and other related work.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment (bucket trucks, digger derrick trucks, forklifts, etc.) safely.
  • Differentiate between an energized and de-energized structure and recognize appropriate hazards.
  • Make basic connections and disconnections.
  • Check voltage/amperes.
