Phi Theta Kappa chapters bring home top awards at region

The Kappa Alpha and the Alpha Lambda Sigma Chapters of Phi Theta Kappa brought home top awards during the 2014 Mississippi/Louisiana Regional Award Ceremony held at Jones County Junior College this past weekend.

Twenty-seven chapters from Mississippi and Louisiana attended the event. Included were 251 members, advisors and guests. Forty-two chapters from the Mississippi/Louisiana Region were recognized as Five Star programs.

Awards received by the Kappa Alpha Chapter included: Andrew Lobell, Distinguished Chapter Officer Award, runner-up; Honors Study Topic Issue Awards, Theme One “It’s All in Your Mind: Foundations of Competition/Competition and Psychology”, first place; College Project Award, third place; Honors in Action Award, third place; Most Distinguished Chapter Finalists, second place; Andrew Lobell, Order of the Golden Key; Five Star Chapter; and Regional Officer, Reporter, 2014-15.

Awards received by the Alpha Lambda Sigma Chapter included: Honors Presentation Award, first place; Horizon Award for Advisors, Blair Booker; Paragon Award for Advisors, Laura McMahon; Distinguished Chapter Member Award, Tyler Scruton, runner-up; Most Distinguished Chapter Team, runner-up; Honors Study Topic Issue Awards, Theme Two, “The Games People Play; Competition and Sports, Recreation and Games”, first place; College Project Award, seventh place; Honors in Action, fifth place; Most Distinguished Chapter Finalists, fifth place; Abbey Winstead, Order of the Golden Key; and Five Star Chapter.

The Phi Theta Kappa International Convention will be held in Orlando, Fla.,  April 24-27.
