Check Out Services
- An open shelf system allowing students to browse and select their own books is used at each campus library.
- ID cards must be presented for on-campus students or student status must be confirmed for off-campus students and library registration must be completed before a student may check out a book.
- Distance Learning students who are participants in the Mississippi Virtual Community College Program must provide identification showing their current college affiliation and must complete a Holmes Community College library registration card before materials may be checked out.
- Books may be checked out for a two-week period and renewed twice for a maximum usage of six weeks.
- Five books maximum may be checked out per student.
- Reference books, periodicals, newspapers, college catalogs, vertical file materials, and videos are for in house use only.
- Books from any Holmes Community College campus library may be requested and checked out with a valid Holmes Community College ID card.
- The circulation desk will close fifteen minutes prior to closing time of the library, i.e. you may not check out a book after that time. However, you may return a book.
Overdue Books
- Overdue books must be checked in at the circulation desk for clearance.
- A fine of five cents per day per book will be charged for all books not received by the time the library closes on the due date of the book. The fine for overdue tutorial videos is twenty-five cents per hour and the fine for overdue Reserve materials is ten cents per hour.
- A student will not be allowed to check out additional materials until all outstanding fines are paid.
- Fines should be paid at the time overdue materials are returned.
- A student who has overdue or lost materials and/or fines at the end of each semester will have his/her records placed on HOLD in the Admissions and Business Offices.
- A student whose record has been placed on HOLD will not be extended library priveleges until restitution has been made.
Internet Station User Guidelines
- The Internet is available to users as an additional tool for learning. It is to be primarily used to access reference and research materials.
- Internet users must sign-in and sign-out at the Circulation Desk and show a valid Holmes Community College ID card or driver's license to the Librarian for Internet access.
- Internet usage is limited to 30 minutes per session if someone is waiting to use the computer.
- A maximum of two people may use an Internet station at one time. Both individuals must leave their ID cards at the circulation desk.
- Computer disks for downloading information may be purchased at the Circulation Desk for $1.
- Internet users are expected to access the Internet for lawful purposes only. Users cannot send, receive, or display inappropriate materials, defined as text or graphics, which may be reasonably construed as obscene or suggestive.
- Users may not visit chat rooms, blogs, message boards, etc. for non-academic purposes.
- Game playing is not permitted.
Library etiquette concerning excessive or loud talking should be observed at all times.
No food or drink is allowed in the library. No exceptions.
