The College Department of Public Safety consists of three divisions: Police, Security, and Emergency Management. Together they coordinate to maintain a safe and secure environment in which to learn, reside and relax while on our campuses or other locations. Each division has a mission that contributes to the overall safety of the College. The department is plans for and responds to any emergency or police matter on property owned, leased or rented by the College. Public Safety works closely with each Chief Student Services Officer on disciplinary matters. The Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours a day at Goodman and when the college is open at the other locations.

  • College Police Officers are charged with enforcing the law within the College’s jurisdiction; Duties include enforcing vehicle offenses, work accidents, handle disturbances and respond to reports of crime. They must attend a Police Academy, maintain certification, obtain 16 hours of continuing education annually and have the same powers as local, county or state officers. Students, employees and the public alike are required to obey the lawful order of a College Police Officer. The College Police patrol using marked cars. College officers have radio contact with the 911 dispatch center for quick response to any incident.

  • Campus Security Officers are unarmed employees for the Department of Public Safety. Campus Security Officers typically work in the student center/union, at a campus entrance, or a Dorm lobby. During special events CSOs assist the College Police in securing and patrolling the campus. They provide direction, information, and while they do not have police powers they enforce college rules and regulations.

  • The Emergency Management section of the Department plans for Disasters and other emergencies, monitors weather and coordinates the College’s Emergency Action Plan.
