The drama/speech department consists of four full time faculty and four adjunct faculty which serve all three Holmes Community College campuses. In addition to regular instructional duties, each faculty member acts as advisor to students majoring in general studies as well as fine arts majors. Members of the fine arts department collaborated with other Mississippi two-year colleges to design a state-wide uniform numbering system, course descriptions, and course topics which will articulate with the four year schools.
The Fine Arts Department Theatre Arts Division has been on the move for the last few years. Although HCC has been producing plays through the Holme-Towne Players (the HCC drama club) for years, we have broadened our mission in the last few years to take theatre arts throughout our district. We offer a range of Drama classes, ranging from acting to technical theatre, rotating them so that each semester the students are exposed to another segment of the world of theatre. This August we will be holding a summer theatre camp and will do workshops that will prepare our corer acting group for the fall productions.
This past semester we toured area elementary schools with out production of ALADDIN AND THE WONDERFUL LAMP. We ended the tour by performing the play in a dinner theatre venue so that parents and grandparents could share the experience with the youngsters. It was very well received.
This spring's production will be THE BOYS NEXT DOOR by Tom Griffin, performance dates are scheduled for March 9 - 12.
Students interested in theatre should contact Jim Schroeder jschroeder@holmescc.edu for information. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.
