Work Based Learning

Welcome to Holmes Community College's Work-Based Learning (WBL) Program. We look forward to working with you, and we hope that your experience with our program will be positive.

The Work-Based Learning Program at Holmes recognizes that learning occurs in all aspects of life, not just in the classroom. Each year, about 160 WBL students at Holmes gain practical, hands-on work experience that complements the knowledge learned in the traditional classroom setting. Because of this training, students are better prepared upon graduation to succeed in a highly technical workplace.

The Work-Based Learning program is designed to match students with jobs directly related to the students’ Career or Technical majors. Students work closely at the workplace with mentors who pass-on the skills and knowledge necessary for students to excel.

Adult worker/mentors, worksite supervisors, classroom instructors, and the WBL coordinator all work together to guide and challenge students to perform well in their classroom studies and on their jobs. Through these combined efforts, students learn about the skills required to succeed in a specific job and the necessary general work skills, such as promptness, commitment, and reliability, required to thrive in all careers.
