A native of Utica, N.Y., Matt Convertino serves as head soccer coach. Convertino played two years at Herkimer County Community College in Herkimer, N.Y., where he helped the Generals win two Mountain Valley Conference Championships, two NJCAA Region III Championships and one NJCAA National Championship.
After attending Herkimer, Matt went on to the University of Mobile where the Rams won the University of Mobile’s first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship and the NAIA Southwest Regional Championship. The Rams also made two national tournament appearances, finishing with top-10 national rankings both years.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Mobile, Convertino was named assistant soccer coach for both the men’s and the women’s soccer teams at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL.
While at Spring Hill, Convertino helped the women’s team complete their first winning season in school history and the men’s team double their most wins in a season. The men’s team also achieved their first conference victory in school history.
From Spring Hill, he moved on to Itawamba Community College in 1999. His Itawamba teams finished second twice in the North Division. He also finished third in Region XXIII during the 2000 season.
In addition to coaching on the college level, Convertino has also worked extensively with youth soccer. He worked some of the country’s top camps including the Mississippi State Youth Soccer Camp and the United States Military Academy Soccer Camp at West Point.
He coached both the U-11 boys and U-16 girls select soccer teams for the Tupelo Futbol Club and organized the soccer clinic for the Girl Scouts’ Girl’s Sports 2000 event.
Convertino holds a United States Soccer Federation “D,” “C,” and “B” License as well as USSF’s National Youth License and has served as a coach on the Mississippi Youth Soccer ssociation’s Olympic Development Program coaching staff.
Dale Dieckman, Certifed Athletic Trainer
Several years ago, the Holmes Community College Bulldog soccer team welcomed athletic trainer Dale Dieckman with open arms. Since then, Dieckman has been an indispensable part of this program.
Dieckman’s knowledge of both athletic injuries and the entire rehabilitation process is extensive. A 1990 graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, Dieckman is a certified strength and conditioning specialist, a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, member of the National Athletic Trainers Association of America for the last 15 years and has worked locally for both HEALTHSOUTH and Jackson Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation.
