Bulldogs fall to Bears, 15-7, to end the season
SUMMIT---The 2009 campaign came to a close here Thursday night with a similar ending to five of the seven Bulldog losses on the season with Southwest Mississippi Community College just edging the Bulldogs, 15-7, as six teams prior had done. With the loss, the Bulldogs ended the season at 2-7. Southwest took an early 3-0 as Brandon Thomas nailed a 22-yard field goal with 5:44 left in the first quarter. Holmes answered the Southwest score in the third quarter as quarterback Dex Hopkins found receiver David Hampton in the left corner of the end zone for a touchdown. Jonathan Smith`s extra point put the Bulldogs up 7-3 with 8:17 left in the third. The Bears scored twice more before the final horn sounded. Bear quarterback Stanley Jennings connected with Travis King on a nine yard touchdown pass. The extra point was no good by Thomas giving Southwest the 9-7 lead with 1:52 left in the third. Southwest then scored again early in the fourth when Jennings raced in from 23 yards out.

Rangers squeak by the Bulldogs on Homecoming, 26-19
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs hope of making the MACJC state playoffs were dashed here Saturday by the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College. The Rangers won 26-19 on Homecoming Day. With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 2-6 on 2-3 in the North Division. The Bulldogs play Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears on Thursday night in Summit at 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard on 101.1 FM and 103.9 FM along with breezynews.com. The Bulldogs scored early in the first quarter after taking advantage of a Northwest fumble deep in Ranger territory. Harry Peoples scored from four yards out giving the Bulldogs the 7-0 lead after Jonathan Smith`s extra point was good with 10:51 left in the first quarter. Northwest answered the Bulldog score with one of their own after V.J. Street intercepted Bulldog quarterback Dex Hopkins and raced in from 15 yards out. Kevin Buford`s extra point was good with 7:25 tying the game at 7 with 7:25 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs got the lead back with 1:02 left in the first quarter when Jamarcus Jackson scored from two yards out. Smith`s extra point was blocked making the score 13-7. Northwest quickly responded before the first quarter ended when Casey Weston connected with Michael Lindsey from 28 yards out. The extra point was good giving the Rangers the one point lead. Holmes answered the Ranger score minutes later when Hopkins raced in from 49 yards out. Smith`s kick was blocked giving the Bulldogs the 19-14 lead with 14:49 remaining in the first half. The Rangers added another score minutes later to take the 20-19 lead into halftime. Weston connected with Marquise Green from 16 yards out. Buford`s kick was blocked. Holmes had a chance to take the lead going in at halftime but the Rangers sacked Hopkins. The Bulldogs had no timeouts so the clock ran out ending the half. Northwest scored the final time from 24 yards out when Weston found Darryl Kinkle on a touchdown pass. Buford`s kick was no good.

Bulldogs get 16-7 North Division win over Mississippi Delta
MOORHEAD --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs used a stingy defense and timely offense here Thursday night against the Trojans of Mississippi Delta Community College and came out on top, 16-7. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 2-5 on the season and 2-3 in the North Division. The Bulldogs host the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Homecoming contest. The game can be heard on 101.1 FM and 103.9 FM and on breezynews.com. Holmes got on the scoreboard in the second quarter when quarterback Dex Hopkins connected with receiver Simon Collier on a 41-yard touchdown pass. Collier caught a five-yard pass and turned into a score. Jonathan Smith`s extra point made the score 7-0 with 4:21 left in the first half. Mississippi Delta got on the scoreboard with 11:47 left in the fourth quarter when Michael Tanner found Jarvis Smith in the end zone from eight yards out. Parker Brocato`s extra point tied the game at seven. The Bulldogs answered the touchdown with one of their own with 4:14 left in the game when Hopkins found Jamarcus Jackson in the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown. Smith`s extra point hit the left upright and was no good making the score , 13-7. Holmes sealed the game just minutes later after Jacque Carter recovered a Trojan fumble at the Trojan 29. The Bulldogs ran a few plays before Smith nailed a 31-yard field with 1:42 left in the game to end scoring at 16-7. Hopkins finished the game 19-for-22 and 131 yards and two touchdowns and one interception. The Bulldogs held the Trojans to 82 total yards including 76 on the ground and 6 in the air.

ICC kicks a field goal with 15.3 seconds left for the 35-34 win
GOODMAN --- Itawamba`s Bret Jefcoat kicked a 29-yard field goal with 15.3 seconds left in the game to lift the Indians over the Holmes Community College Bulldogs.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 1-5 on the season. The Bulldogs travel to Moorhead Thursday night to play the Mississippi Delta Community College Trojans at 6 p.m. The game can be heard on 1340 AM and 103.9 FM and on breezynews.com. The game will be rebroadcast on 101.1 FM and breezynews.com on Friday night at 7.
The Indians scored nine points in the last 4:25 seconds to pull out the victory over the Bulldogs.
Itawamba took advantage of an early Bulldog turnover after the Indian punt hit a Bulldog on its way to the ground. The Indians recovered at the 30. Jefcoat then found Demarcus Watts on a 35-yard touchdown pass. Jefcoat`s kick was blocked, and the Indians led 6-0 with 13:52 left in the first quarter.
Holmes answered the Indian score with one of their own with quarterback Dex Hopkins hitting Simon Collier on an 8-yard touchdown pass. The extra point by Jonathan Smith was blocked and the game was tied with 8:14 left in the first.
Itawamba scored with 49.1 seconds remaining in the first when Jefcoat connected with Marti Shelby on a one-yard touchdown pass. The kick was blocked making the score 12-6 with the Indians leading.
The Indians scored early in the second quarter as Watts caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Jefcoat. Jeremy Jones caught a two-point pass from Ty Ferrell to make the score 20-6 with 12:34 left in the first half.
Holmes answered the score as Hopkins raced in from five yards out. Smith`s kick was good to make the score 20-13 with 8:10 left in the first half.
Itawamba scored late in the first half with 21.1 seconds on five-yard touchdown pass from Jefcoat to Shelby. The run failed ending first half scoring at 26-13.
Holmes then reeled off three scores to start the second half. The first was a four-yard run by Hopkins with 11:23 left in the third. Harry Peoples scored from a yard out with 4:52 left in the third. Hopkins then scored from 18 yards out with 14:53 left in the fourth quarter. Smith`s three extra points were good giving the Bulldogs the 34-26 lead.
Itawamba`s Jefcoat sneaked in from a yard out with 4:25 left in the game. The two-point pass was no good giving the Bulldogs the 34-32 lead before the Indians drove down for the winning field goal as time was running out.
Hopkins carried the ball 12 times for 77 yards and three scores. He finished 15-of-22 for 270 yards and a touchdown.

Bulldogs fall to Tigers, 25-10
BOONEVILLE --- Playing in driving rain for most of the night here Thursday, the Holmes Community College Bulldogs and the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers fought in a North Division contest. Northeast took advantage of Holmes turnovers was was able to pull out the 25-10 win.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the North Division. The Bulldogs host the Itawamba Community College Indians Thursday at 7 p.m. in Goodman. The games can be heard on 101.1 FM and 103.9 FM. It can also be heard at breezynews.com.
In the first quarter, the Tigers took a 3-0 lead after Tyler Turner nailed a 21-yard field goal.
The Tigers went up 9-0 after Tiger quarterback Clint Wilson found Dominique King on a 25-yard touchdown pass with 13:24 left in the second quarter. Turner`s extra point failed.
Northeast held a 12-0 lead at halftime after Turner nailed a 24-yard field goal.
Tiger safety LaDarrius Madden cushioned that 12-point lead at the 9:35 mark in the third quarter after his 35-yard interception of Bulldog quarterback Dex Hopkins for the touchdown. The Bulldogs got on the board on the extra point try after the attempt was blocked and DeAnthony Wilkerson ran some 85 yards for the two points.
Holmes was able to get on the scoreboard once again at the end of the third quarter when running back Don Smith found the end zone on a 2-yard run. Hopkins found Jamarcus Jackson on the two-point conversion pass, and the Bulldogs cut the lead to 18-10.
But, in the fourth period, the Tiger offense added another score as Terrance Jones raced in from 8 yards out. The extra point was good by Turner.

Bulldogs get first division win
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs picked up their first win and first division win of the season here Thursday night over the Coahoma Community College Tigers, 30-14. With the win, the Bulldogs went to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the North Division. The Bulldogs travel to Northeast Mississippi Community College for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday. The game can be heard on 101.1 FM and 103.9 FM and on breezynews.com. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first in the first quarter on a 21-yard field goal by Jonathan Smith. Holmes increased the lead to 10-0 with 12:55 left in the second quarter when Dex Hopkins found David Hampton, who sprinted in from 48 yards out. Smith`s kick was good. Coahoma answered the Bulldog score with one of their own as Hollis Moore II pulled in a nine-yard touchdown pass from Garrick Jones with 7:37 left in the first half. Reed Gallagher`s kick was good making the score 10-7. Late in the third quarter, the Bulldogs increased the score to 17-7 as Hopkins again found Hampton, this time from 13 yards out. Smith`s kick was good with 1:27 left in the third. Coahoma pulled to within three when Nico Jones stripped a Bulldog ball carrier and scored from 35 yards out. Gallagher`s kick was good with 11:12 left in the game. The Bulldogs then scored twice in a three minute span. The first score came when Hopkins found Simon Collier on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Collier caught a ricochet from fellow Bulldog Hampton and several Tiger defenders. The extra point was blocked making the score 23-14 with 3:11 left in the game. The other score came after the Bulldogs` Pat Williams recovered a Tiger fumble deep in Tiger territory. JaMarcus Jackson later scored from a yard out with :58.7 left in the game. Smith`s kick was good. Hopkins finished 75 yards rushing on 19 carries, and he threw for 126 yards and was 10-of-22 with three touchdowns and one interception. Hampton had four catches for 84 yards.

Bulldogs fall in division opener versus Lions
SCOOBA --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs fell behind 28-7 at halftime and went on to fall in its first North Division game here Thursday night to the East Mississippi Community College Lions, 41-14. With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 0-3 on the season. Holmes hosts Coahoma Community College on Thursday night. Game time is 7 p.m. at Ras Branch Stadium. Randall Mackey got the scoring started for the Lions when he connected with Marcus McQuarley on a 27-yard touchdown pass. Brett Spencer`s extra point failed giving the Lions the 6-0 lead with 10:16 left in the first quarter. With 7:41 left in the first, Mackey connected with Derrick Steele on a 23-yard touchdown pass. Spencer`s kick was blocked making the score 12-0. Lance Lewis caught a touchdown pass from Mackey with 4:31 left in the first quarter making the score 20-0 after McQuarley caught the two-point pass from Mackey. Mackey ran a touchdown in from 25 yards out to finish East`s scoring in the first half at 28 after Footman caught a two-point pass from Mackey. The Bulldogs got a score with 9:44 left in the first half when Wa`Javius "BeeBop" Jones scored from a yard out. Jonathan Smith`s kick was good ending first half scoring at 28-7. East Mississippi added two scores in the second half as Pat Shed scored from 17 yards out with 14:14 left in the third quarter. Spencer`s kick was good making the score 35-7. The other score came when Mitchell McCurry caught a 21-yard pass from Mackey. Spencer`s kick was no good ended East`s scoring at 41. The Bulldogs final score of the night when Harry Peoples scored from five yards out. Smith`s kick was good with 12:31 left in the game.

Bulldogs battle hard; but fall to EC Warriors, 27-24
GOODMAN --- The Holmes Community College Bulldogs made Thursday night`s game a battle in the second half but came up short, 27-24, in a non-divisional matchup with East Central Community College. With the loss, the Bulldogs fell to 0-2 on the season. The Bulldogs travel to Scooba next Thursday night to play East Mississippi. Game time is 7 p.m. The game can be heard on 101.1 FM and on 103.9 FM along with breezynews.com. The Warriors got on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 42-yard field goal from Chad Mangum. East Central held a 3-0 lead at halftime. East Central got the second half scoring started off with 9:45 left when Antonio Ricks caught a 28-yard touchdown pass from Emmanuel Taylor. Mangum`s kick put the Warriors up, 10-0. The Bulldogs then scored on a 21-yard field goal from Jonathan Smith. Mangum added another field goal for East Central, this time from 30 yards out with 2:11 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs pulled with three points as the third quarter horn sounded when Harry Peoples caught a 53-yard pass from W.J. McAllister. Smith`s kick was good. East Central wasted little time in fourth answering the Bulldogs` score. Taylor scored from a yard out with 13:02 left in the game. Mangum`s kick made the score 20-10. Holmes answered the score and brought it back to three points, 20-17, when McAllister scampered in from three yards out with 8:59 left in the game. Smith`s kick was good. East Central`s Ricks caught another touchdown pass from Taylor with 6:03 left in the game, this time from nine yards out. Mangum`s kick made the score, 27-17. The Bulldogs final score came from 23 yards out when McAllister found sophomore receiver David Hampton with 2:40 left in the game. Smith`s kick was again good.

Bulldogs fall to Wildcats, 45-7
GOODMAN --- Pearl River Community College jumped out to a 31-7 halftime lead and never looked back winning the season opener, 45-7, here Thursday night in Goodman. The Bulldogs face the East Central Community College Warriors on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Ras Branch Field in Goodman. The game can be heard on 101.1FM or 103.9FM or breezynews.com. The Wildcats jumped out to an early 10-0 lead in the first after Emil Jones connected on one of his five touchdown passes. This time he connected with Desmond Ratliff on a 38-yard touchdown pass. Travis Bradley`s kick made it 7-0 just minutes into the game. After the Bulldogs fumbled the kickoff, Pearl River drove to the three before settling on a 20-yard field goal from Bradley. Pearl River increased the lead to 17-0 after Jones connected with Willie Downs on his first of two touchdown receptions, this time from 52 yards out. Bradley`s kick was good. The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard in the second when JaMarcus Jackson broke free from 14 yards out. Jonathan Smith`s kick made the score 17-7 with 5:28 left in the half. The Wildcats scored twice more on touchdown passes before the half ended as Jones found Serggio Judkins on a 12-yard touchdown pass and Downs on his second touchdown reception, this time from 55 yards out. Bradley`s extra points were good making the score 31-7 at the half. Pearl River added a rushing touchdown on a four yard run in the third quarter by Rashod Henry. Bradley`s kick was good. The Wildcats ended the scoring with 12:47 left in the game when Jones connected with Darnell Jackson on a four yard touchdown pass. Bradley`s kick was good.
